Are We Dead?!?!?     6/2/07

Answer: No, not technically, but TLW is on its last legs... (Or severed stumps... I havent decided which sounds more clever yet.) The fact of the matter is, I've simply lost the time and modivation to keep this site in a state where it can compete at being a viable, accurate, and timely source of Zelda information and media. Also, again in order to save on money and internet resources, I also plan on getting rid of thelightworld.com domain name. In the future, this site will simply be located at http://thelightworld.froggyguydesigns.com. As a high schooler, life has simply interviened. I'm a different person from the guy I was when I started this site more than three years ago in Junior High. Music, which was always a part of my life, has taken more of a front seat than ever before... (And consumed more time than ever before.) I've grown my hair out, started a blues rock band, (again, another source of distraction, and time consumption.)

I guess what I'm trying to say is, anyone who is reading this, and was a previous visitor to The Light World, I'm confirming your suspicians that The Light World is no more. I plan on keeping it up on the internet as a text and information resource, but I am also going to take down all the media galleries, which includes images, videos, and the MIDI gallery, to save space and bandwidth for a project that otherwise isnt generating any reasonable interest, or benefit from those visiting this relic. I think I gave it a pretty good run, had a lot of fun, learned a lot, (about Zelda, the internet, coding, and random other things,) and believe me, I'm a bit sad to be officially saying goodbye to this part of my life. But the fact is, its not a part of my life anymore. Those who know me personally know that I'll always be a Zelda fanatic, and an internet nerd.

So long and thanks for all the fish! And goodbye to all the amazing, kind, and helpful people I've met on my journey through the internet Zelda universe, and community. I had a great time, and wish you all the best.

Extra! Extra!     8/17/06

Aside from some affiliate changes I will be making shortly, the biggest news at The Light World right now is that we will soon be taking on a new staff member. For the first time ever, The Light World will not be a one-man-show. FroggyGuy webmaster of FroggyGuyDesigns.com, our host, and frequent forum visitor, (while the forum was still up, which is another story I will get to in a minute,) will be taking on the roll of news reporter, which, I admit I have done a bit of a lackluster job at. Hopefully with the addition of a reporter more things will get covered more thoroughly, sooner.

As for the afore mentioned forums, with the advent of a new host, I may be able to get my hot little hands on a database to get a real forum that is actually connected to The Light World up. This means less spammers, and a more streamlined connectivity. I'll let you know when I get the new forum up.

New Affiliate     7/21/06

Please welcome Zelda Oracles as our newest affiliate! They have a wide variety of... well, everything. I would especially like to point out their Zelda "wiki," which is the newest and without-a-doubt coolest Zelda encyclopedia ever to grace the net. It sports the same kind of "user posted entries" as Wikipedia.

I have also found two different versions of an old commercial for the long-ago discontinued "Nintendo Cereal" featuring Mario and Link. The first commercial is all there, but only advertises Mario. The second one is the full commercial, but the only file available on the internet is corrupted near the end, so its a bit cut up at the end. They are both available for viewing in the Videos section under "Commercials."

I have also added to the Videos section the sequal to the flash annimation "The Real Legend of Zelda." And quite frankly, I think its even funnier than the original. I have also found a commercial for Link's Awakening which has also been posted in the Videos section... Good day for videos.

Dog Day's News     7/11/06

My appologies for... being lazy. Then I was gone for a month... But now I'm back and I have tons of jucy news for everyone. First of all, registration for Camp Hyrule runs from July 25th to the 27th. You can sign up at the Camp Hyrule Website. That should be lots of fun. Also, we have learned a little more about the slippery "Tingle RPG;" it has a name... we think. According to a translation from Famitsu magazine Tingle RPG is no more and in its place we have... "Fresh Tingle's Rose Colored Rupee Land"?!?! This was obviously not a decision aimed at the American market. Where in North America Tingle was accepted... er, grudgingly and with sceptezm, he was a hit in Japan, and has finally been granted his own spin-off game. It is yet to be seen if Tingle's new adventure will even reach western countries.
Details for Fresh Tingle's Rose Colored Rupee Land include placement in the timeline before The Wind Waker, and before Tingle was really Tingle. Tingle heads out to a spring and meets a man named Rupeeji which IGN translates as meaning "Old Man Rupee." (I'm sure you can pick out which one he is in the scan of the magazine. It has been added to the image gallery.) Old Man Rupee says that if Tingle collects rupees and tosses them into the spring he can open the gate to "Rupee Land." It is at this point that Tingle becomes the Tingle we know today.

USAopoly, the makers of the popular game Monopoly has announced a Nintendo-themed edition to be released later this month for $36 dollars. You can preorder your copy of it here. I have finally gotten up the official art released for Twilight Princess just before E3 along with a couple of random screenshots, so head on over there to enjoy especially the fantastic art.

I posted an update a couple of months back previewing a fan-produced Zelda movie: this isn't about it. However Zelda Central has alerted me to the fact that a different fan-produced movie has recently been released. It is titled "The Legend of Link" and runs just over an hour and a half! It is available for viewing online at Google Video. No new information has been released regarding the other movie, The Hero of Time.

I'm pretty sure that covers the important things I've missed while on vacation. Expects a bunch of media in the next couple of days! (Along with fixed links from the swich in hosts.)

E3 2006 Day Three     5/12/06

Wii: Lots of specs and news coming at you on Wii! We know it will have 512 MB of internal Flash Memory. (Not much.) It will be able to play the 8 cm GCN disks as well as the 12 cm Wii disks. The Wii disks will have a 4.7 GB capacity running single layer, and 8.5 GB on dual layer. We will be able to download games from NES, SNES, N64, Sega Genesis, and Turbo Grafx. It will also be backward compatible with GCN, it will have 4 wireless Wii controller ports, (minimum. There may be more. Four have been announced.) There will also be 4 GCN controller ports, 2 GCN memory expansion ports, (YES! We'll be able to keep play the same save files on the Wii! This is super-ultra-fully backward compatible!) And two USB 2.0 ports. Now that the specs are done, onto the even cooler stuff! First of all, Nintendo has released an image and slight info on a more conservative (and wired in the picture,) Wii controller. I'll list all images below. Secondly, they have also released info and image for a light gun sleeve, a la Duck Hunt. (Which is also an announced Wii title. That's right, a new improved version of Duck Hunt is announced for Wii! Its really perfect for the system.) Also as stated before, it has a rumble feature and a speaker in the controller. Nintendo has also not stated how long wireless controllers will last, or even if they will be rechargeable batteries or not. With a speaker and all the other extra features of the controller, battery life may be taking a slight fall over, for instance, the Wavebird. Also as previously known, Nintendo reasserted that the reason for the radically new design and features is to make it more approachable to non-gamers, and to create a "Revolution" in the gaming industry. I must say, although I was skeptical before, Nintendo has yet again made a believer out of me. Just about every major gaming site on the net has credited Nintendo as having the best E3. (Over Sony and Microsoft.) After the giant flop of the GCN, this is great news for Nintendo! (And all its fans.) Lastly, experts have generally predicted somewhere between August and November for a US release of Wii, launching somewhere between 100 and 200 dollars. (Pocket change compared to the 360 and especially the PS3. For extended specs, you might try reading Gamespot's article on "What Wii Know."

TP: First of all, Nintendo has confirmed that the Wii and GCN versions of TP will be launching on the same day, the launch date of the Wii. And of all the games showcased at E3 '06, it should come as no surprise to us that Phantom Hourglass, Twilight Princess (GCN), and Twilight Princess (Wii), took top honors as the 3rd, 7th, and 15th most popular games (respectively,) at the entire show. Way to go Nintendo! I have also added the only official screen for TP released at E3. (And it hardly qualifies as a screen.) Sorry, no new videos.

PH: Eight new screens and one piece of official art have been added to the PH Image Gallery.

E3 2006 Day Two     5/11/06

Wii: In a question and answer session with Mr. Miyamoto yesterday, (published today,) he answered questions about why the Wii will not be HD compatible. He said that its the high-tech people who will be wanting the PS3's and Xbox 360's anyway, and there really isn't a high count of HD tvs out there yet, so Nintendo made the decision not to go HD. However, he promised that Nintendo's next system will be HD compatible. Also, Nintendo has confirmed their Wii partnership with Opera as well as the previously confirmed partnership for DS. This means that Opera will be the Wii compatible browser to surf the internet, along with the planned browser to be released for DS.

TP: Day two and a large number of gameplay videos are hitting the net. I've added them to the Videos section. I have added eight videos, one of which is the Twilight Princess trailer for E3 2006. The trailer shows some very nice gameplay. The files are titled "Twilight Princess E3 '06 12-15" "Phantom Hourglass E3 '06 1-2" and "Twilight Princess Trailer 4". Hope you enjoy. Its 182 mb worth of video! However, there aren't enough hours in the day: I'll get the new Phantom Hourglass screens uploaded tomorrow. Last in media: due to the speed of my home computer, it may be a while before all of the videos are online, so there may be some dead links in the videos section for an hour or so.

Lastly I would like to say that Microsoft has formally stated that they recommend Wii. To make a long story short, Peter Moore, a vice president for Microsoft, was quoted as saying in an interview: "Tell me why you would buy a $600 PS3? People are going to buy two [machines]. They're going to buy an Xbox and they're going to buy a Wii ... for the price of one PS3." Microsoft obviously would rather pull Nintendo up a level or so on the ladder in order to pull Sony down. Good for Microsoft! To read a very slightly more in-depth article, head on over to IGN.

E3 2006 Day One     5/10/06

Today was the first official day of E3 2006. The show floor and booths opened up. While this doesn't usually mean tons of new info, it does mean new demo gameplay footage, and movies. I have uploaded two new Twilight Princess gameplay footage clips to the Videos section. You can watch them here, and here. As for Wii, and DS, pretty much nothing today. Lastly, not much on PH, but IGN revealed in a hands-on article that the characters and landscapes are an over-the-shoulder 3D view, while items and smaller things are 2D pre-rendered sprites. It also revealed that much of the demo, was controlled using the stylus. Attacking, digging, moving, using items, all stylus controlled. Whether or not it can also be controlled via D-Pad and buttons remains to be seen. Finally, a storyline (of sorts,) has been added to the Twilight Princess section. It is from a press release, so its got some credability. Unfortunetly, its nothing we didn't already know. I just thought that this would be a good text and time to post some sort of temporary plot line.

E3 2006     5/9/06

Well, E3 starts tomorrow, but that doesn't mean the fun starts then. Nintendo's E3 press conference was today, and it was no small affair. I'll dish out today's E3 info under four different headings below. Hope you can follow.

TP: I'm not going to be adding the two Zelda videos (one being a trailer and one being a gameplay demo,) released today to the videos section due to file size, but you can view them at Game Trailers. I'm also not going to go into detail about what was in the videos, because this post would be even longer than its going to be. What I will say are these few things: for those of you who were wondering about special Wii features for TP, they are very plentiful. Time magazine had a column on it, but it is explained better in the gameplay video. But to make a long story short, there will be two different versions of TP available for purchase: a GCN version which has been known for a while, and a just-announced Wii version which will be beefed up with all the special Wii-mote features. In the gameplay video, the control scheme and menus are also laid out for us to see. Tomorrow the show actually starts and all the booths open. If your going to E3, I envy you. I should be making an update every day during E3 because I will be absolutely swamped with info and media, so check back every day, and for a few days afterward as I clean up on all the info I missed. More TP info: I have also located another piece of official art, and it has been added to the TP image gallery. Amazon.com has also said that Twilight Princess will ship on May 15, three days after E3 ends. This comes as a shocker to the Zelda fans who know that Nintendo said it will be released in November, (most likely.) Although retailers have been wrong many times before, so I won't vouch for their accuracy. Another possibility is that it would be only the GCN version released, although that also runs counter to Nintendo's press conference announcement that both the GCN and Wii versions of TP would be released alongside the Wii console.

PH: PH hasn't been left out of the action either. Nintendo announced that Phantom Hourglass will start where TWW leaves off in the timeline. You will use the stylus to direct sailing and the path of your boomerang.

DS: For those of you who don't know, DS Lite will feature a brighter backlight, and four lighting setting to boot. It also features a 20% smaller, sleeker build, a better, (less mushy,) D-Pad, and new and improved and differently placed mic and power buttons. DS Lite is also due out on June 11th for North America.

Wii: Finally, more technical specs on Wii. There will be a speaker built into the Wii-mote for even greater game depth. For instance, you can hear an arrow fly from the remote, (your bow,) to your enemy in the TV. Some form of internet play has also been announced. (I do believe that WiFi has already been confirmed.) This can be used to play games on the "Virtual Console." That is, play select first party games from previous Nintendo systems. Not much is yet know about this feature. I'll write more when I know more. An Opera browser has been announced for Wii as well. 24-7 connectivity to the internet was also announced. One perceived use for this is for (hypothetical,) Animal Crossing. People could visit your town even when Wii is off. You can be sleeping and someone could come to your town.

For more details of the Nintendo press conference, check out IGN's Play-By-Play article, or just watch the whole thing yourself at Gamespot. Yours in Gaming,

Month's Worth of Junk     5/3/06

Nintendo has released the official name of the Revolution... Wii. Yeah. Its pronounced we. The i's are supposed to look like two people. I'd say its taken the video game industry by storm, but that would be a lie. My personal opinion? I think its dumb. But just like several other Nintendo decisions, (the move to make Rev, now Wii, non-HD comes to mind,) I'm slowly warming up to it. For more information, check out IGN, or Game Spot. They both have good articles on Wii.

In other news, our affiliate, Hyrule Kingdom has changed their name to Zelda Cavern, and is now found at http://www.zeldacavern.com. Also, a friend of mine is persuing a new hosting plan for his game site, FroggyGuy Designs. You may know FroggyGuy from the forums. I won't put a link up to his site just yet, (upon his request,) due to his sites current state of dissary. Anyway, he has agreed to share the hosting with The Light World, so we may be changing hosts soon. With this host change, I may also be picking up a .com addresss, so check up on updates every so often for more information.

And lastly, a Japanese gaming magazine has released some new Phantom Hourglass media. You can view it in the Phantom Hourglass image gallery. Yours in Gaming,

Zelda Movie     4/10/06

Of all the rumors constantly flying about about a Zelda movie, this of all has the most merit. Why I didn't know about this before is a mystery to me, but our affiliate, The Legend, has been promoting it for independant film maker BMB Finishes. It's advertized as "Low budget and AMAZING!" and is slated to be released this fall. For more information, click on over to The Legend's page on "The Legend of Zelda: The Hero of Time." You can also view their trailer below. Quite frankly, it doesn't look nearly as bad as it could have been. It looks really bad and cheasy at the beginning of the trailer, but it gets a little better towards the end. It obviously looks like its based on Ocarina of Time both from bits of the trailer, and the "Hero of Time Motif."

In somewhat other news, as it still concerns The Legend, I would like to personally congratulate Lysia on her interview with the prominent online Zelda Zine "Harkinian." Her history in the online Zelda community garnered Harkinian's attention for an interview. Congratulations Lysia!

The Phantom Hourglass     4/9/06

Apologies for the late update, as this information has been available for a while. I've been on spring vacation in Texas, so I did not have access to a computer. Anyway, Nintendo has unveiled "Zelda DS" under the official title "The Legend of Zelda The Phantom Hourglass." As to where this name comes from, Nintendo has left a mystery. However, Phantom Hourglass has already got its own trailer which you can view in the Videos section. To review, Phantom Hourglass is not a Four Swords game as the trailer clearly shows, and it will be using TWW style cell shading. Some of the features such as the screens switching to facilitate touch sensitivity on both views looks very cool. If I've got one complaint, though, its that the graphics seem very grainy. Its the first trailer, I know, I just hope the graphics get bumped up a notch for the release... Maybe? Oh well. Speaking of releases, its also slated to be released before the end of this year. This brings about an interesting idea that I have heard reiterated several times and that is that it will be released so close to Twilight Princess, perhaps there might be some connectivity things going on there. With the huge flop of GBA/GCN connectivity, I'm not sure I'm too excited, but one of the biggest problems with that was that one had to have an extra wire. The DS and Revolution should have all the chips needed for wireless I/O interaction. We'll see what happens. With the release of all this information comes rock solid conformation that there are two Zelda DS games in progress. The Phantom Hourglass, and what is currently know as Tingle RPG. There is speculation that Tingle RPG could only end up seeing release in Japan.

In other news, I've posted a new Fan Fiction entitled "The Legend of Zelda: A New Beginning" by Kirsty Macdonald, and an MIDI version of the Majora's Mask Upside Down Stone Tower Theme.

Lastly, I was doing some housecleaning in my media folders on my computer, and I came across some E3 Twilight Princess gameplay videos from last year, among other things which generate a list too long to warrant writing out. Just head on over to the video section to enjoy a whole bunch more media.

Twilight Princess To Use Revolution Controler     3/16/06

Although there have been rumors galore about Twilight Princess having some special features exclusively for revolution, a recent interview with Mr. Miyamoto seems to clench it. When Nintendo Europe inquired how Twilight Princess for Gamecube was coming, he responded:

"I would say that we are progressing well with completing it. And one of the most important features is that, because Revolution can run GameCube software, when you play Twilight Princess on Revolution you can take advantage of the Revolution controller."

Sounds just as vague as he usually is, but it sounds like pretty solid evidence that there will be Revolution-exclusive features. Perhaps when played for revolution we will be able to use the controller as a fishing reel, because I can't see Nintendo making it fully playable using the Rev. controller as a sword. Guess we'll just have to wait and see.

AGAIN!?!     2/23/06

That right everyone, the fine folks over at Nintendo have delayed Twilight Princess again. In an interview with Spike TV, the big man Reggie revealed several exciting details about Twilight Princess, including a late 2006 release. Among other things, he also shot NGC down in flames, by coming right out and saying that they are not currently focusing on any Revolution elements for TP. It is going to be released for Gamecube. On the bright side, (if there is one,) Reggie stated that definate release date would be announced at E3 2006. You can view the full interview at GameTrailers.com.

20 Years!     2/21/06

Two months: all I can say is "Oops, sorry." However I'm hoping to get back on the ball, and this fresh round of updates is here to kick it off!

Our affiliate The Legend has alerted me to the fact that yesterday is the 20th birthday of the original Legend of Zelda for the NES. Lysia has a great retrospective looking back over the past 20 years at the Zelda series. You might want to check it out.

Now that thats aside, we have a new affiliate: Zelda 383! Please give them a warm welcome.

Also, it has been confirmed that Ganon will be making an appearence in Twilight Princess, along with some much harder enemies and bosses, according to an interview with a TP developer.

DS has its next iteration in the near future. DS Lite will come out sometime in 2006, and will sport a brighter backlight, more streamlined look, new microphone and speaker placement, and it will feature the DS logo on the cover.

Lastly, there has been a bit of an underground, forum-based defiance. To make a extremely long story short, some media guy from somewhere, got his hands on some Twilight Princess "Secret" demo somehow, and was able to dump a whole bunch of information/spoilers pertaining to TP on the Zelda community. The most complete source for everything relating to this event, this includes both the released information, and the events leading up to the information release is here, on the IGN boards. All you need to read is the fourth post. Everything else is just comments. On that note, drop by the forums and lets hear your opinion! For the sake of everyones poor eyes, (there is a TON of text on that page,) I have written up an editorial recaping all the previously unreleased, or unconfirmed information. Enjoy!

Nintendo Power 200th Issue     12/21/05

Just got my Nintendo Power magazine in the mail. Its the 200th issue, and they've been working up to it for a long time. To cap it off, they finished the top 40 of the best 200 games available on a Nintendo system ever. Needless to say, The Legend of Zelda was well represented in the top 40. Heres a quick breakdown of Zelda in the top 40 of the best Nintendo games of all time:

39 - Oracle of Ages
34 - Oracle of Seasons
24 - Minish Cap
15 - Majora's Mask
7   - The Legend of Zelda
4   - The Wind Waker
3   - A Link to the Past
1   - Ocarina of Time

Lets have a quick number crunch here; that means that one fifth of the top 40 games were Zelda games. Says something about the franchise, dont it? And Ocarina of Time as number one Nintendo game of all time; no surprise there. In fact, for the caption for it, the first two sentances are "Surprised? Probably not."

-Zacharyheroftime

High Resolution OOT     12/7/05

Thats right, folks. I've know a little bit about it for a while, but this is a project by Djipi. Anyway, the title says it all. He has just finished an ongoing project to transform Ocarina of Time into High-Res. You can download it all here. Its pretty incredible.

In other news, during an interview by Club Nintendo, a Spanish Nintendo Magazine, Reggie reported that a Zelda movie was in the works. This, however, was a misinterpritation. He actually said that there was no project for a Zelda movie. A Metroid movie, he confirmed however, is in the works. Thank goodness for this, in my opinion. Whenever I think of a Zelda movie, the Cartoon pops into my head. I couldn't bear something like that tarnishing the Zelda name.

There has also been some new news coming out on the Revolution front. IGN has recently lauched their "Revolution" section. For base content, they have released some new technical specifications. According to information gained from Nintendo and developers, IGN states that it will be more like a souped up X-Box. "It will cater to an altogether different market that X-Box 360 and PS3." Nintendo has also retracted its statement that the Revolution will be 2 to 3 times as powerful as GameCube. Its also rumored that the disks will be able to handle 12 Gigs of data. IGN also stated "But it's the controller that makes the difference and the controller is really nice." Encouraging for the Revolution. If you want to read more about it, heres IGN's article on the Revolutions Tech-Specs. But perhaps the most encouraging to new rumor is the speculated launch price: 150 dollars or less.

Our last bit of news for today also comes from IGN. A while ago IGN posted a list of 10 reasons to wait for the Revolution number eight is as follows:

"#8. 360 Doesn't Have Legend of Zelda Xbox 360 may have a lot of things going for it, but the platform doesn't have The Legend of Zelda franchise -- and it never will."

True dat, IGN, true dat.

Two Month Recap     11/27/05

Seeing as I have been regrettably innactive for the past while, here is some recap of events having transpired over the course of the past couple of months:

Sony Music has released a three-DVD set entitled "The Legend of Zelda - The Complete Annimated Series," for those of you who didn't know it was coming. It is available for $23.00 here.

I'm also hard on work on a new editorial specifically for the holiday season. Hard time reasoning with your parents as to why you want this new video game? This ones for you! I'll also get some new Episode Guides for the Zelda Cartoon up soon with the introduction with the first official collection being released.

I'm still alive     11/10/05

Many appologies for the extreme innactivity. There has really been no new news, and I've been busy with other things, so The Light World has had to take somewhat of a backseat for a while. Anyway, I finally logged into my dot.tk account and figured out how to get rid of all the stupid .tk adds. Also, for everybody's information, I will not be answering any more emails asking me where to get anything mentioned in the merchandise section. I may in the future add such a feature to the section itself, but I am becoming overloaded with many of these such emails. I know nobody likes to hear this, but the best, (and often times only,) place to get old Zelda merchandise is eBay. Best of luck!

Speaking of eBay, though, I was browsing through Zelda merchandise when I came upon one of the Gold Triforce, European Release Only, Special Edition GBA. But this was no ordinary I'm-not-going-to-say-that-again GBA's, this was one of the 30 special edition GBA's signed by Shigeru Miyamoto himself at the opening of the Nintendo World Store in NYC! Its guarenteed yours for 800 dollars. You can view it here.

OOT2D Rediscovered     9/27/05

Many thanks go to darkdragon999 for findings OOT2D's new resting place. One of the most ambitious fan-made games on the internet left it oot2d.com resting place a while ago without a trace, but here it is now. For those of you who have not had the pleasure of exploring the details of this project, this site is worth a visit!

As for site updates, as you can see from the cleaned up homepage, I finally got all of this years updates dumped into the News Archive section. And as for something you might actually care about, I have added two new pieces of official art to the Twilight Princes Gallery.
